Assuming the top speed limiter was removed, what's the top speed you think an 01-06 Escape could hit before being drag limited? Also, keep in mind the difference between indicated speed and GPS speed. Our speedo's are several MPH fast. I'm thinking about taking my escape to a private airfield that one of my buddies owns and finding out, but I don't want to kill myself....

I've done 90MPH on the Interstate a couple however the Scape is not built for that speed and it was feeling pretty loose :shades:

I'll second the Escape not being built for that! It seems pretty good up till around 85, then it starts wandering about :worry: . Not something that I would want for pursuit work if I were a patrol officer. Then again, some municipalities do use the Escape for Police work. :shrug:

Well I went and tried it out - I hit 121mph GPS indicated (speedo was pegged at 120 at around 112 GPS) before I eased off as my tires are only rated for 112mph. This is a 2006 limited with XCAL 3 93 octane tune and a magnaflow dual exhaust. It was still accellerating well at 121mph, so when I get new tires I'm going to try it again. I wouldn't be surprised to see 130mph.

Someone else can do the calculations with gear ratios and RPM, but I'm going to guess that the top speed is somewhere around 220 km/h.

Unlike the rest of you, the Escape felt very well-planted at 160 km/h (100 mph), and that was on A/T tires.

I got to 110MPH with the 04 V-6 Escape I used to have. Felt ok at that speed but you would not recover from a panic steer at that speed with it.

I hit about 97 mph on an empty highway in West VA. I was on my way back from the KY FunRun a few years ago and I didn't realize how fast I was going. When I did, I slowed down to a little over the posted speed limit. I think it was 70.

I can say that my 4 cyl AWD can go 100+. It feels awfully light and squishy though at anything above about 85-90. The engine was SCREAMING!

When I used to have my 01 v6, I took that baby right to over 120. I can say I was "s-ing" large bricks and possibly cinder blocks that night. All I could think of is "please let there be no deer on 128 tonight".

You will never know what your car can do if you don't take it to the edge of it's capabilities. And both times, it was dumb as hell.

drove down to charleton a few weeks ago, and from greenville to columbia i cruised at 85mph the whole time [1 hr 15min drive] had to slow down in columbia. once i cleared columbia it was back up to 85 for the other 2 hrs. my escape did very good. it's an 05 v6 awd. no wandering at all, stayed glued to the road. i'm running kumho solarus 21's right now.

Got my new general grabber HTS tires.

128mph GPS indicated.

I think she had a few more mph in her but I started running out of room. Either way we're starting to come real close to the drag limit without more horsepower.

That's just with a simple XCAL3 93 octane tune (with extra +2 timing advance and advanced shift points), a dual magnaflow exhaust, and the grabber tires. Nothing else. Pretty damn impressive for a cheap suv. Not to mention the extra 200lbs of weight it's carrying in sound equipment and electronics.
