I recently installed a Thule roof rack on my 2009 Escape with factory side rails. I went with the 450 Crossroad Railing Foot with 58" crossbars instead of the recommended 50" bars. The ease of installation is incredible with a very solid connection. After one test drive I realized I needed a fairing to quiet the wind noise associated with the front bar at highway speeds. Thule recommends a 38" fairing that fits inside the side rails and leaves the feet exposed to the wind. After some head scratching I ordered the 44" fairing. This worked out great. There are four attachments to the crossbar and all fit inside the side rails/feet. The fairing extends out past the side rails and feet. The fairing eliminated the wind noise and looks very nice. An added bonus of this setup is that I can remove the rack and use it on my Mountaineer if the need arose. I also like the 165 pound rating of the Thule crossbars as opposed to the 100 pound rating of factory crossbars.
