So it all begins with me deciding, well today is Tuesday and I have the day off from work, I might as well truck down to my local Ford dealership, to see what I can do about getting about my front brakes replaced. Ford has a mail in rebate going on right now with brakes so I thought what a good idea. As I go into the service area which I am all to farmilar with from working there for a year at that dealership, I stroll up to one of my buddies who work there and start talking shop. As we are talking, an old freind of mine who is their transmission specialist comes by and hears me talk about the occasional "shuddering" i was getting when my truck would shift into Overdrive. He joined in and said oh thats definately your Torqure Converter. I said really? Well I wonder if thats covered under my US Fidelis plan. So I run out the truck and pull out my paperwork, take a look through the contract and find this..."Covered Tranmission Parts - Internally lubricated parts of manual or automatic transmissions, including torque converter case if damaged by the failure of an internally lubricated covered part, oil pimp, drums, planetaries, sun gear and shell, shaft(s), bearings, shift rail, forks and snychronizers." So immediately I jump all over that saying I bet it's covered, but let's call them and make sure. Well I first was on hold for about literally 40 minutes. I finally get someone on the phone and they told my service guy ok, "well we'll need a detailed estimate and copies of all the recent oil changes and transmission services." Luckily I get all my service done religously at this dealership, so they fax the stuff over. Another hour and a half later they call back saying, yes we will cover up to $1230.00 of the repair. GREAT! Thats just over what the total estimate was at $1215.00 I said, and all this time I was worried they wouldn't do a damn thing, and that I bought the coverage for nothing.
So now my service advisor says it will be about three days to get the work done, so I might want to get a rental. Well I knew from working there that they didn't have their own loner cars, and that they used discounted rates from Enterprise to help people who needed cars. So my service advisor calls over to Enterprise and asks if they can give me a decent rate on a car concidering the fact that I'm having work done at the dealership. They agreed, but said the ONLY car they had in the entire area was a cargo van...Ok I said laughing at this point, it's wheels what do I care? Two hours later they finally show up with my cargo van, and start to take my information. As soon as they get ahold of my drivers license and credit card they look up and say, we cant rent you this van. Why not I ask? Becuase I'm under 21. :wall: I'm 4 months away, but they can't rent anything over an intermediate size car to me. Ok I ask, when do you think you'll have a car for me that I can rent? Tonight they say, call back in a couple hours and we should have some returns. Well 17 phone calls later, they still have no cars and they are closing for the night. Come back tomorrow morning they say, we should have something by then.
Well 730 in the morning I'm at their door, and they STILL have no cars that I can rent due to my age. :censor: I go home frustrated as hell, as I have no car to get to work at 130pm and its already 9am. After 20 more phone calls, I finally get a call from the Enterprise agent saying we found you a car! It's at our store in Albany, and if you head up there they can fix you up. Ok finally I get somewhere. I head up and finally get sqaured away with a rental. A 2007 Chevy Aveo with A/C and AM/FM Radio....The work on my truck should be done on Thursday afternoon, so hopefully either I'll pick up my truck either Thrusday night or Friday morning, depending on how long it takes US Fidelis to process the claim. The good thing? I get the work done before it totally goes on me and I'm stuck, and my mechanic freind assures me as soon as the work is done, it will drive 1000x better....more to come.
