We are more than likely trading the Mariner this weekend. We still like it -- it's been great. We just would like something bigger (3rd row). We were originally looking at Explorers, but they start at $36K if you want 3rd row. We found a killer deal on a new '09 Chrysler Aspen Limited (Durango clone). Yeah -- it's got a Hemi :D . Sticker is $37K, and we are buying it for $24.8K. It's new -- with lifetime powertrain warranty. MPG is only 3 worse than Mariner (365HP/390ft-lbs.). The odd thing is, it's 220 mi away -- and it's 2wd. We have only seen pictures. We completed an internet deal, and just have to drive down this weekend, and pick it up. I'll keep you posted, and post pics if we do buy it.

Fine Print: (I'll also have some goodies in the For Sale section soon -- as I started stripping the Mariner last night). ;)

OK -- you can start all your Chrysler-bashing now. I'm not biased. I've owned mostly Ford, but have also had several Chrysler products. All have been good.

Update
We did it. We got a very fair price, and traded. We drove down to Tulsa on Friday, and back to KC with the Aspen on Sat. I snapped a few quick pics when we got home. They gave us $18K for our Mariner -- which was $2K more than our local Ford dealer was offering for trade on an Explorer (where we bought it from :wall: ). Sale price of new Aspen was $24.8Kr. Net trade - $6.8K. It only had 34 miles when we drove it. I have not floored it yet, but it hauls.

Good luck on the Aspen, they are out of production and Chrysler is going to orphan them within the year. That's according to Fiat.

Yep - Durangos and Aspens are already gone in model year '10. Thus, the large discount. That doesn't bother me. My Sport Trac will be obsolete after this year as well.

I do admit, the Chrysler Aspen is well appointed, looks good, and drives very nicely. I never could understand why they didn't sell very well.

Dakota/Durango replacement has been announced, btw. It's based on an exisiting chassis. I am not anxious to see it. Especially with all the cost cutting the new Chrysler/Fiat is going through to pay for Fiat's involvement in a failed firm. Imo, Fiat only wants access to US dealerships to sell their wares here. Nothing noble going on saving Chrysler...

I don't know. I think the new Durango is one of the best looking vehicles Dodge has had in a while. It is based on the all new Jeep Grand Cherokee platform, but it is stretched to allow for a third row seat. I don't think they are at dealers yet, but they should be soon. Here's a pic

+1. I hated the overall shape of the last generation Durango/Aspen. It looked to me like they couldn't decide if they wanted to design a minivan or an SUV. The new design is much closer to the original concept which I loved the look of.
