Synthetic or dyno and what grade? I will change mine soon since 1. it hasn't been changed in 60k miles, i know that because it has the original wax seal around the drain plug on it and 2. it makes a LOUD clunking noise when AWD engages.

1/Transfer case oil:Ford recomends synthetic 75w-140.I happen to use AMSOIL.
Quantity: 12oz. only.
2/Are wou sure the clunking is from the transfer case? You may find the answer in the state of the oil you are about to drain. If you see iron debris in the oil larger than dust bits...

I am pretty sure its the T-case...i also "feel" a slight bump under my foot when it engages..other than that it works fine.
