I'm currently in the middle of installing a new transmission in a 2006 Ford Escape, 3.0L, 4WD. I was installing the intermediate shaft into the transfer case when I noticed that the plastic piece that seems to be part of the oil seal is very loose and rotates freely (although it won't completely pull out of the transfer case). Assuming this isn't normal, what's the best way to fix it? Is it normally held in place with some sort of sealant? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
