Transmission Possible Problems

1226 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  hurk
I bought a 2002 Escape with 88,000 Kms and really like it, but lately I've been reading some really concerning reports about the transmissions needidng to be rebuilt right around that mileage. Mine works very smooth so far and I don't have the previous vehicle history. Should I be concerned?

Thanks for your help.

I don't know anything about the V6 transmissions, but what I have read is that, when it's time for a fluid change or service, you need to find out what is the correct fluid to use - it seems like there's some confusion on the subject. Part of the confusion stems from the apparent fact that some dipsticks are kinda mislabeled as to what fluid to use. Also, some places may have input the wrong fluid requirement into their computers.

There's a How-to article here on Escape-City for doing a transmission fluid exchange.
Or search the internet for Prowler's patented 7-6-3 or 5-5-5 transmission fluid exchange process.

I guess I could've clarified that statement. I meant any posts when doing a general internet search. I've seen her replies at Esscape-Centrall and wasn't sure if she posted elsewhere.
