The oil cap recomends 5w-20, can u use 5w-30 in the summer? I hav'nt had my first oil change yet as i am only at 4100KM. When is it ok to start using synthetic? I have a 3 year free oil change from the dealer, do they use synthetic or can i ask for it when they do a oil change? Does ford use synthetic oil at the dealership?

ive used 5w20 synthetic since ive owned my escape, and i used in on my windstar when i had it and traded it in at 200m00km with only wearing parts replaced. its +35 here in the summer and -40 in the winter.

There's not a lot of difference between 5W-20 and 5W-30. You can use either, regardless of season. If you want to split hairs on the minute wear differences, then stick with 5W-20.

Brampton tends to have temperatures around what Toronto gets, right? Unless you see a lot of -30 weather, just get your free oil changes and use their bulk oil. They may use a semi-synthetic for 5W-20, although I'm not sure about that. If temperatures get really cold, then switch to a 0W-20 (or 0W-30 if you can't find 0W-20).

Depends what mood i'm in. Sometimes it might be kitchen cooking oil. Does not seem to cause any problems. Polyunsaturated oil, sunflower oil or that olive cooking oil, seems to do the trick. :lol:

Here lately I've used Quaker State 5w-20 but after I run out of the oil I stockpiled up on I am going to switch over to Mobil1 Full Synthetic as I hear it is great for your engine.

is ur oil filter easy to get at? Would it be the same on a 09?

Mine is really easy to get to. I am not too sure on the 09's. If you look up underneath your engine it is a fairly big oil filter. You should be able to spot it right away.
