When Ford released the Escape and it's siblings in 2000 the designers had pretty much hit a home run. But lets face it there is always room for improvment.
I love my E/M/T but if the designers could change just one thing, I would like to see...

A full size spare mounted in or on the vehicle. I'm sure the donut hanging under the back of my 06' Escape is in pretty sad condition after 3 winters and it's not very easy to get at.

OK design team put on the thinking caps, what's your wish?

Right off the top of my head, they need to put the grab handles back. There are none in our 08 Escape.

As for our 09 Mariner, there is a grab handle on the passenger side. :thumb: The lumbar, however is this crank type contraption located on the drivers seat only and in a very inconvenient place. I would like to see power lumbar in both the driver AND passenger seats. On long trips my husband does most of the driving and I am the one with the bad back.
The back windows on both the Escape and Mariner only go down half way. I would like to see that changed.
Other than that, I am totally in love.

Hey All!

Coming over from the Chrysler brand to Ford & the Escape. The Escape is my wifes as it was time to replace her Sebring. We've owned it for a little over a month now and here are my comments so far:

1) Turning radius is a little big for such a small vehicle
2) I would like to have the rear door armrest [bezels] match the silver ones on the front doors.
The one thing I really like so far is the Escape (4-cylinder) gets much better gas mileage than my Liberty so that's a plus

I would like to have a full frame, rather then the uni-body frame. Stiffer rear shocks, but keeping the SUV feel. Also a real 4X4 option package. Not so much getting rid of the intel-4X4 because it actually holds it's own on trail but an optional suspension.

A longer wheelbase, to accommodate longer rear doors, which get you rear windows that lower all the way.

Sharper turning ability, or lower radius turns if you like.

Longer cargo room in the rear, like the first series Explorer would be about right.

Lower ride height, and a front end spoiler that really gets the air out from under the truck.

We have 157 Horsepower four banger. It's good, but not enought torque. So, more torque.

Power lumbar support, that would be nice!

Slightly longer wheelbase would be nice, keeping overall length the same. Would help approach and departure angles as well.

I want a FR layout with a frame and proper bumpers. I want the 60s back, design-wise.

I noticed that as well, coming from an Escort ZX2, which was actually 3 inches longer. I'd also like the manual option (I'll be greedy and ask for a 6 speed) with the V6s, or at least 4 cyl Limitied manual options.

(1) Bring back a two-tone paint option.
(2) Put covers back on the rear glass strut mounts (our '05 has them, but the '08+ models don't)
(3) Softer materials on the door panels
(4) Move the rear cupholders back to the flip out shelf on the back of the console (like '01-'07) instead of right where my elbows mash into cups placed in them ('08+).
(5) How about a flip down armrest in the rear bench like the Mazda 3?
(6) A more stylish/aerodynamic radio antenna instead of the 3 foot whip from the 1960s.

Speaking of cloth stains... anyone know a good seat cover company that supplies nice fitting stuff for the Escape?

My wishlist, based on an 08 XLT:

1. Full frame
2. Solid axles/linkage suspension (coil & damper)
3. 2 speed mechanical transfer case
4. More HP
5. Longer rear cargo area
6. A-pillar grab handles
7. Rear disc brakes
8. Sturdier roof rack rails
9. Better placed/protected gas tank
10. Get rid of rack and pinion steering
11. Lockers
12. Sway bar disconnects

A lot I know, but IMHO it would make the Escape a very tough and long lasting vehicle with even broader appeal.
