Wheel hub and bearing replacement

I need to replace the front wheel bearings on my car. I am going to replace the hub and bearing assembly as I don't want to deal with taking the bearing somewhere to be pressed on. I am looking through the ford service manual for it and they mention that you need to use a puller to get the hub off and a press to put it back on. It also states you need to remove the tie rod. Is it all necessary or can I get by with using other tools? Thanks
