Detailing "Flex Fuel" Chrome Badge

On my 2011 Limited escape, there's this neat little badge on the bottom right of my tailgate, however, the paint is wearing off, and it's looking kind of crummy -- has anyone ever tried repainting it? if so what have you used to take the old paint off, how have you detailed it, etc? I really want my escape to shine.

I didn't restore mine but I did buy a brand new OEM replacement from https://www.fordpartsgiant.com/. I got a nice deal and it looks good on my escape so I'm really happy about that.
