The article has some serious factual problems. I don't think 386,000 Escape Hybrids were ever built. I think it was around 120,000. Second, the recall is mostly for 2001-2004 Hybrids, but the Hybrid came out in 2005.

I know you are right on your second point but I'm not sure about the 1st one... Anyway, the recall is not for hybrids according to this Oasis Broadcast:

Looks like that's about right. This Wikipedia article states 117,997 Escapes and 12,806 Mariners between MYs 2004 & 2012. 130,803 total between the two models. I'm curious to know how many of those were sold as taxi's.

I could have sworn I read something, about 8 years ago, that stated they were upping production to ±64,000 units/year and that was limited by battery availability. I also recall the article stated a certain percentage of the Hybrids were earmarked for Taxi fleets only. I guess I'm remembering wrong or the article was just a rumor.

And as fleet vehicles. Now and then I have a look at used FEH's for sale, and I practically never see one that was a fleet or taxi vehicle. I didn't see an ex-fleet one for sale when I was shopping for an FEH. No doubt many were bought for taxi use and government/utility/media use, but it seems by far the majority were bought by private individuals.

130,000 sounds like a small number, spread over North America. But if I keep an eye out, I can usually spot about one every day in our corner of the world. Interesting how numbers work.

In regards to this recall, I had attempted to schedule a time for my 03 to have the subframe inspection completed, aware that parts are not yet available, and that I had not yet received a letter. The dealership I called refused to even inspect the vehicle until I had a letter in hand. This directly conflicts with what the documents on NHTSA's site state. I'm thinking I should call Ford corporate and see if they would have a little chat with this service department.

That's not cool. I would call Ford. I did the same thing as you but they took me in and took 1hr to inspect the escape which was free and they left a letter on my seat stating that i passed and will be called when parts are in signed Ford not dealership

I have an appointment next week for inspection. Living in Massachusetts I am sure (but I hope not) my '01 is effected. Although getting a new subframe would be nice!

Getting a new subframe would be nice, and i need my passenger side control arm changed. Getting the dealership to free up all the rusted bolts will be nice LOL.

Yeah, I just called Ford customer service and they said they would give the service dept a call, so hopefully that goes somewhere.

After having the dealer check out my Escape it was deemed safe to drive until the parts come in. They also found that there was three other recalls that were never taken care of on my particular truck! So, when the parts come in I'll get the subframe brackets as well as the engine cover modification, ABS relay and stud replacements!
