A small update.....

Found out the transmission was fairly overfilled...so when I drained it, I got 7-8 nasty quarts out of it.
The fluid was completely black, so it hadn't been changed in a long time, or ever.

I picked up 2 bottles of "Lucas Transmission Fix" and 2 gallons of Valvoline MaxLife ATF.
I figured the Lucas stuff was worth a shot to see if I could spare myself from swapping a transmission anytime soon.
I ended up putting both bottles of Lucas in and about 5 quarts of ATF.

It also had a steady dripping oil leak that was coming off of the A/C compressor, so I removed that to find that the oil pressure sensor was bad.
Got a new sensor for $6 and that cured that, and I also went ahead and changed the oil and filter since it was low from leaking for who knows how long, lol.

Drove it after getting those issues taken care of and it's shifting the forward gears perfectly, reverse works perfectly, no weird noises, and no leaks. :D

I'm pretty excited about it.
Even if the trans needs replaced, I could find one, put it in, and have a V6 4x4 Escape with 85xxx miles on the engine for under $2500.

Better man than I! I still have nightmares from a transmission issue on my Sable. Good luck with your (hers) ride and I hope you enjoy it.

From what? One thread?

SkylineTj wrote:This 2002 that I'm buying is a V6 AWD, so I'm sure the gas mileage difference will be noticeable, but surely it won't be too bad.

It isn't. I posted some numbers when I drove the ALCAN from Arkansas to Alaska. Obviously it was 95% highway miles, but even here in town with more city than highway miles I average 21.5 with a V6 AWD, running (at various times) A/C, Max A/C or even the floor heater/windshield defroster.

Amazing how some people just don't take care of their vehicles. I hope the "fixes" keep the 'E' running smooth for a very long time. :thumb:

but also to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment...

Yea, it is pretty sad how many people neglect preventative maintenance.
I guess the trans wasn't all that damaged, since a little trans additive and some good high mileage fluid made it work correctly, after draining out 7 quarts of badly worn fluid.
All I can do it hope it holds up at this point.

Hey, did you ever do that fog light upgrade?

I'm trying to do the same to my 2005 Mazda Tribute.
