I know this an old post but the transmission is the same in the 4 cyl as the v6. It's also the same as the fusion. Even newer years are same transmission. According to my Ford mechanic the only issue is the 4 cyl. If it's a v6 you can haul 3500lbs.ford manual says same thing if equipped with class 3 hitch. I've owned a lot of 4 bangers and never had towing issues up to 3000lbs the 1500 rating confuses me.

I think lawyers got involved. :? We happened to leave Watkins Glen last Friday and went through your neck of the woods to get on I-86 heading towards Binghamton.

Oh!
Yeah, that looks like a bad plan!
If I was literally moving it around the block, I might do that, but I'd never want to take that out on the highway, and even just going across town on city streets, while it sounds 'safer', that's a lot of starting and stopping and your tranny could take a beating, as well as big wear on brakes...

I would say towing any weight over 2500 frequently and in hilly conditions would start to take it's toll on the trans. Lots of power for it just lacking in the strong transmission dept
