Looking for some help 2008 Escape Radio replacement

Postby jtfam1 - December 22nd, 2013, 8:01 pm

Any help would be appreciated. I removed a 2008 Escape factory radio from a 2008 escape (actually a Mazda Tribute- but the same thing !) - no sync, no steering wheel controls.- no problem. I put in a single DIN replacement Sony unit with blutooth- no problem works great. I used a crutchfield provided bracket/faceplate- not a problem. I used a PAC interface C2R-FRD1. There were two connectors on the back of the factory radio- a 24 pin and a 16 pin. No problem there -the new harness had those covered as planned.

Here's my question -there was a small 4 pin (4 pins in a line) connector on the side of the factory radio that connected to the front panel of the factory unit. Is that supposed to connect to anything? I just left it there hanging. There is a spare connector on the harness too- but that's an 8 pin connector not a 4 pin. I don't see any place to plug that into on the new harness.

Also- there is a digital display above the radio that used to show the time- and was the radio display (stations, band) Now - after the installation- it shows the word DVD. Not sure if the PAC interface is supposed to provide that information to the display. OR is the display just now useless? I don't really care, but it shows DVD all the time. If so does anyone know how to disconnect it? Any help would be appreciated.

The instances I had seen where someone ditched the original radio I thought the display read "Ford Escape" when disconnected.

Look into the idatalink maestro unit as well that may help you there.

Hey, same vehicle, same situation. Honestly, you get used to it saying 'DVD' up there. If it really bugs you, i've seen a few people put a thin digital clock there between the HVAC areas of the display. I'm not sure the iDatalink will do any good on the 2008, I was never able to get mine to change that display.

I did replaced my HU to a double din, and I know about the 4 pin connector you are talking about. I think that is for the display, my display reads "DVD".....

I'm about to change my radio as well. Will I still have the clock and temparature gage in the upper display?

You will have direction and temperature display still but will lose the radio display part. It will read either DVD or Ford Escape.

I never notice it anymore really as I have an aftermarket Kenwood double DIN GPS deck installed now.

For the record I had installed...

Kenwood DN690hX Headunit with a dashkit to convert to double din, looks factory!
4 Kicker KS-68 speakers
Kicker 12" powered subwoofer with quick disconnect in the cargo - 11PH12 model i think it is.

Sounds so much better over the stock system...had it installed at a local shop took them about 3 hours total.
