So I get an email from Canada Wheels that unfortunately, I’ll have some shipping fee before they can process my order. I guess I didn’t see the fine print on shipping. They pay the first $150. Shipping to Goose Bay, Labrador will cost $275 so I owe $125 plus tax. I approved it right away although not totally thrilled.

I’ve been trying to prepare ahead of what I’ll do for TPMS’ for my new aftermarket wheels. Dorman seems to be a decent brand at roughly $45 each. Are these vehicle specific or is it all in the programming? The local tire shop didn’t seem to know much about, which I find strange. They said the dealer will have to do the programming.

Wow. I just spoke with a local auto service Center. They charge $98 each TPMS and $25 each to program. Outrageous! I’m gonna have to look for my own with programmer.

Or, I could save the bucks and just tape over the warning light. After all, our summer months are light till 10:00 p.m. A light on during daylight isn’t that much of a nuisance. I’m wondering, though, will there be any annoying audible warning that I’d encounter?

You can find the TPMS for 10->45 bucks online (10 at direct from Hong Kong places, YMMV, 35 for VDO at RockAuto, 45 for Motorcraft ones at RockAuto). I also thought that you could do your relearn by putting it in a specific mode and going around and lowering the pressures in the tires until the horn honked, no tools and not 100 bucks.

I probably shouldn’t go with cheap substitutes as removing and reinstalling tires can be additional expense and a pain. Worst case, I can install my own and, it the warning goes off I can take it to our tire shop and have them program them for $25 each.

One of the garages here in town say they have a Dorman relearn tool which is meant for Dorman TPMS. Is that right? You need specific relearn tool for whatever TPMS you install?

Just ordered these. There was actually the same ones but for $90 less but something seemed fishy- 3-5 weeks for shipping, a misspelling, etc.

So, I've got Motorcraft (FoMoCo) TPMS. What is the exact procedure for programming them. I was going to install my TPMS and tires onto my new aftermarket wheels and then take the wheels to our Ford dealer and have them program the sensors. As far as I know, I don't need to take in my Escape, is that correct? And, the sensors can be installed in the wheels before programming?
