Wheel compatiblity questions

Postby Rime of AM - September 18th, 2018, 10:02 pm

I need a set of Winter wheels for my 2010 'Scape.

I would like to stay OEM, what years can I pull from that will fit properly?

I would like to stay with 17's or can go -1 with 16's.

Are the current body style wheels compatible?

Thanks guys.

There's already few threads on this. You can literally use any 16" or 17" rims from the escape, marner, tribute up until 2012 and even other Ford, mazda products that are the same bolt pattern (5x4.5").

I don't think there's an offset issue with most rims but if you're trying something different, it's best to test fit on the fronts.

I looked around the site & see that Mustang wheels fit.
Now my fun half is thinking of using the stock chrome ones for the winter & putting 'Stang wheels on it for summer. My practical half says no, well maybe...
I haven't found E, M or T wheels locally. 'Stang wheels abound. Hmmmm

So maybe the practical thing to do (as he attempts to convince himself) is to get the tires for winter now & worry about wheels in the spring to defer the financial pain...

If you can find mustang wheels at a good price then I would go for it. But if you're not in any rush, and the tires on your current rims are due for replacement soon anyways, then you could defer the rims purchase until spring or whenever you find a good deal, and put winter tires on your current rims.

You also need to factor in if you want TPMS on the second set of rims or if you want to deal with a TPMS light on all winter. The light didn't bother me so much, but the fact that you have to hit reset in order to clear the message center on every start was very annoying to me.

Where I am in Ontario, Canada, there's lots of Escape rims around. Another option would be to post a Wanted to Buy as on the sale part of the forum and see what you can find.

I saw some discussion about the TPMS,
I usually mess around with older cars w/o it.
Do the Escape wheels come set up or do you have to swap the sensors around?

I guess it depends on the seller.

I imagine If went Mustang, they can be added to those wheels?

You should be able to add TPMS sensors to any rims. I'm not sure what sensors need to be programmed or not though and which ones are plug and play.

You may need a programming tool to program, but the ones you currently have now are programmed and you don't need to worry about those. I haven't had to do anything with TPMS yet so I'm not completely sure though.

With regards to sensors, it all depends on the seller. Some may have it, some may not, you can usually tell by the valve stem by if they have it or not though if you're buying premounted rims and tires.

Cool, I'll check my stems later so I know what to look for.

Found a set of '13s locally, I wonder if they are sized right?

I saw a site that gives the specs of OEM wheels somewhere I hope I have it bookmarked on my PC

I found a set of mustang wheels w/tires & TPMS.

Anyone know if the 'Stang TPMS is compatible with the 'Scape?

If they share the same frequency it may work. If they do, you may need to program them on every swap though.
