Just bought a '10 Mariner Premier today

Postby Staphn - February 22nd, 2018, 6:35 pm

I finally got my dream car today, and I thought I'd share! This is also my first post on this site, so any newbie help would be appreciated.

I got a 2010 Mariner Premier, Silver, all the bells and whistles. It's been the car I've wanted ever since I saw the '08 revealed. I've actually wanted an Escape since I was about 12 in '01, but once the second gen Mariner came out, there was little contest in my opinion.

It has 89,000 miles on it, so still has plenty of life left. Aside from the normal wear and tear, there's a half-dollar sized dent above the rear passenger wheel well. I'm looking at it as a learning experience for how to pop out minor dents like it. In any case, I'm looking forward to modding it as I go along, eventually it'll be my storm chasing vehicle (one of my passions), provided its still driving well after the first year.

Do you guys have any tips or pointers for a new Mariner owner? I know I should probably go ahead and replace the transmission fluid, since replacing the filter is basically impossible. And I'm aware of the fuel line cracking, and the previous owner had replaced it already. But otherwise it seems like the previous owners did a very good job keeping it up.

Anyways, I'm just super psyched to finally be part of this family of car owners, especially after coming from a '98 Chevy Venture that was struggling to keep itself together. This is certainly a few steps up :D

89k miles is just about broken in for an Escape/Mariner. You won't be disappointed with this vehicle.

Oh my gosh, you had me scared for a second. But then I noticed the "in" after "broken"...good to know I have quite a bit of life left in her!

 See how critical one little word like "in" is? Yes, Escapes/Mariners and Tributes are just getting their 2nd wind @ 89K. If you take good care of them they can even go on to get a 3rd wind as well

It wouldn't hurt to drain off a little ATF and pour in some fresh. I exchanged about 3 qts of Mercon V that way. It should keep the fluid from total break-down. I did it once, some like to do it 3x over a week to change it all at one.

Keep up other fluid changes too. I changed my coolant two years ago, and the heat is great. Brake fluid changed last year.
