AWD problems

Postby Bridgerman - February 4th, 2021, 9:05 pm

Hi Folks,

Newbie to the forum. I've done some poking around but can't seem to find an answer to the problem I am having.

I have a 2013 Escape with a 2.0 turbo and it has been trouble free for almost 100,000 miles. Recently the AWD system has been acting up. We have had quite a bit of snow here in Montana and the roads are slick.

Basically, when I try to start from a dead stop and the road surface is slick, the instrument panel display that shows how much power is directed to the front and rear tires shows power diverted to the rear tires only. It only happens on a slick surface and the slippery surface indicator on the instrument panel lights. When I start on a dry surface, the car starts in AWD with power evenly distributed to both the front and rear tires.

This problem has almost gotten me stuck a couple of times now and it is getting annoying.

I am wondering if I have a faulty ABS sensor and the computer doesn't think the rear tires are spinning? There are fault indicator lights or check engine issues.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

TIA

Have you tried switching your Traction Control off?

Since it is impossible to direct more than 50% to the rear, as the front wheels are always driven, I would suspect ABS sensors.

Thanks MadMax,

I just tried that and the results didn't change. From a stop, all thrust to rear tires only. When rolling it seems to work properly.

Thanks Bangster,

Wouldn't that throw a code? No check engine light on.
