Interesting readout on the transmissions used in our vehicle

Well, been 2 weeks today since I purchased my 2020 Escape and in that time both my wife and I have come to love the overall utility of this vehicle. Having come out of a 2013 Focus Titanium with the messed-up PS6 I really do appreciate the new 8 speed in the Titanium AWD. Full disclosure; the PS6 never left me stranded but it did have to go back to the dealer 3 times in the 9 years I owned it. Each time the repair was covered under warranty and the dealer provided me a courtesy loaner, so I was never really inconvenienced and I NEVER had any out-of-pocket repair costs. But, with 180K mi on the clock I kind of felt I was living on borrowed time.

With that by way of background I am now wary of any potential drivetrain problems, so I tried to do my homework before purchasing the Escape. This website came up and is interesting reading for anyone curious about our transmissions.

So...Did you get the Titanium with the 2.0 GTDI and what is the transmission code (8)? Which is it the 8F35.

The 6F35 that it replaces was also a GM/Ford collaboration.

I was test driving Focus (mostly 2 year old 30-40k mile ex rentals) to buy for my daughter who at the time was a sophomore in college. All of them had that pronounced skip at parking lot speeds. I kept a couple overnight, reset the computer (pulled the battery) and drove it knowing it was a manual with auto engaging clutch, and they were not too bad, but a couple of them had the seal and clutch replacement, and already had the revised TCU, and already felt like the clutch was soaked in oil again.

For a little more ended up with a newer Fusion with the second gen 6F35 and other than the horrible looking fluid in low mileage, decent transmission. As my Escape has it but with an engine that it completely different drivability wise but similar in HP, does decent job there but like the programming that sport mode does versus normal.

The biggest problem with dual clutch automatics is people try to maintain them like hydraulic automatics. IDK what Ford's service interval is, but IMHO, no dual clutch should go farther than 40,000 miles between fluid and filter changes.

I agree that 50% of the issues are because people expect it to be an automatic, and drive it that way.

But there is the seal leaking contaminating the discs, and the TCU issues causing them to slip into neutral. If I reset the PCM/TCU/KAM, and drove it like I was using a clutch (no very very slow parking lot creeping, like start and stop in short periods of time) then some of them seemed to lose the jerkiness or slipping feeling. But those already had the TCU and likely the seals and clutches replaced already.
