I sometimes find the start/stop annoying but I try to view it as just different. One of the annoying things is that the climate system does shut down but the car becomes very quiet if your tunes aren't playing. Another is the power steering 'kicks' as it cycles when the wheel is slightly turned. For me it rarely works as it should because it has to restart very soon after stopping. Drive-through lines are a good example -.-.-.-..... So, you can restart it easily enough by just lifting your foot from the brake pedal for an instant
I saw the age of the thread and almost didn't reply but yes, Auto Start/Stop features can usually be programmed in the vehicle's firmware. But, as Charles mentioned recently, you need a tool that can read/write Fords proprietary commands like Forscan.
VW/Audi have a similar requirement through VCSD, it was formerly called Vag-Com....
I believe someone will come up with a way to disable it. I have researched it and isn’t required by the government. There is a device that can be bought for the F-150 that permanently disables it. Much easier to get to switch on F-150 than the Escape. (You Tube video). The Escape S does not have Auto Start/Stop.
Not sure where they are putting $100 in gas in their tank, but that is a pretty steep price. There are a lot of those single purpose OBD port dongles and programmers, I am sure there is a little R&D to get money back for, but wow.
