Signature pictures

We've had a few rough days around here lately, so we (the mods) are putting up a set of E-C Posting Rules soon.

Until then, we've noticed that the size of some signature pictures is really getting out of control, some to the point of making entire threads unreadable. While I can't limit the picture size directly, we are going to ask everyone to limit signature picture sizes to around 300 pixels tall by 640 pixels wide, maximum.

Yes, there are users who use the site on smaller screens than HD or higher, and on phones and mobile devices (especially), these Jumbotron-sized signatures gobble up data plans like crazy, they make pages take minutes to finish, and they make the text on the site impossible to find.

If we see large signature pictures, we're going to start PMing users to make them smaller. If you can't do this yourself, PM me, and I'll do it for you.

Sorry, but the out-of-control stuff around here lately needs some control.

Thanks.

I took your picture and shrunk it to meet the E-C size criteria of images not exceeding 640 pixels wide by 300 pixels tall. Your image you linked to was 543 pixels wide by 960 pixels tall.

If you click the "Select All" link in the Code box below, you can paste this image into your signature in the User Control Panel.

Code:

Sorry if this has been covered, but a search didn't turn up any specific info. Is there an issue with using OneDrive for signature pics?

No matter what form of embedding/linking I try, I either get this error:

It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image.

Or simply the HTML code/URL shows up instead of the image.

The pic size is 300 x 225.

This is the direct link to the image:

The issue we have had with Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, and OneDrive is that they all use a secured server (In other words, https instead of http). Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.

It is a great looking Escape though.

Thanks very much for your reply. I'll have to figure something else out then.

So, it's been a while since action on this topic, anything new on what source to provide pix from?
Please note that "Photobucket" (using a non-offensive consonant in the middle there....) is NOT an option as I tried them for another site and it was more painful than root canal. Their software was even invasive by searching my PC for data to create endless advert pop-ups that covered the screen, preventing any sort of real use.
And as many can see now, the E-C has become a mess of extortion threats from Photobucket. Yes, I did check the URL shown and unless you pay them, they will never again allow your pix to seen anywhere. Obviously desperate for bucks as their business model seems to be failing.
Good point about the secure issue, need to find that magical http:// site that allows this site access to obtain the pix.
However, going forwards, any chance that uploading right into the site may ever be an option?
Thx Mods for your assistance and insight.

End of day update
Stumbled upon the topic regarding Photobucket, did not know the problem went back that far. Last time I used it was probably April. Still feeling the pain..... :wall:

For the few pics I have uploaded here since the extortion started, I am using Flikr.

Thanks for that, I sussed it out, looks pretty "friendly". Do you use the basic service or the Pro? I don't need the ad-free version (need to save the $, being retired and all...) but not if they are like PB and just inundate you with them.

I am too cheap to pay for the Pro version. I can Beta test it for free though.
