With the impending snow in capital land, NY; I had to swap my front all seasons with my rear snows..

Thankfully I had two floor Jacks, an electric impact and a torque Stick.

I installed a Compustar 4900S remote start kit in my 03 'Bute. Never did find the brown parking light wire that's supposed to be in the driver's kick panel, but everything else works fine. Pulled a 1k ohm resistor out of an ancient 100-in-1 Electronics Projects kids educational toy for the lock. Didn't need a relay like the instructions insisted. No more scraping the windshield in the morning, and then again in the evening. Someday I might put some buttwarmers in the seats and wire them into it.

So, It wouldn't start last night.

Here's the story.


It started normal in 4 degree Fahrenheit. I drove to my wife's job about 20 minutes away. The vehicle sat for 3 hours and wouldn't start. My wife and I jump started it to get it home. I brought the battery in and cleaned up the top and filled it up with fresh distilled water.

I re installed the battery this morning. It was a hard started, but started none the less. I had the battery and alternator load tested. The battery was given a marginal grade both times.

After waffling and price checking I ended up with a 40r from a local Ford dealer for 129+tax. Both auto parts stores wanted 159 +tax for a 96r.

So I saved $20, got a full 3yr plus pro-rated warrenty, and the battery fits the tray much better.

Lesson, don't assume the dealer is going to cost more. I wish I got the motorcraft back in 2014.

Since buying the Escape just a little over 2 months ago, I’ve been busy making it mine.
First to go were the Goodyear all seasons and replaced them with BFG K02’s.

Then replace the interior lights with LED’s
Installed LED’s in the reverse lights and added a third.

Next I replaced the no name roof basket I had from my previous truck, with a Rola Vortex.

Then I turned my attention to the front of the truck and installed a pair of 2 inch cube lights and a 8 inch light bar.

Not to mention a overhead light switch panel.

Just a little light duty towing:
mattress
couch
dining room table
4 table chairs
TV stand
(basically your normal college student house of furniture)



Trailer is a little heavy, over built, yet poorly built, so I am sure it alone is close to the towing limits of my little 1.5l. It was up hill the whole way, 1,000 ft to 2,600 ft, without trailer I can average 27 mpg. I stayed with traffic, not getting bogged down at 70-75 in the far right lane, I am sure if I didn't keep it at 5,700 rpms for 10 minutes straight at a time it would have done better. Sport mode is so nice for towing, and the paddle shifters for deceleration is very nice as well.


I don't feel any issues with the transmission, but having towed about 800 miles and being near 35,000 miles I think around 40/45k I will do a transmission fluid change. It still looks okay, but Mercon LV really starts to oxidize and get dark pretty quickly.

If you have the ability to drain and fill do it. The 4or 5 quarts it costs every 40k is well worth it.

knocked out lower control arms and sway bar links in just under 2 hours. Thank God for escape city and youtube for all the helpful tips tricks and advice.Took it to the dealership the Friday before Christmas for a (road noise check) and got free diagnostic, free alignment check, free road test and a free car wash!!! probably didn't hurt to bring a 4yearold with for sympathy points.

Easter Sunday I performed tsb 09-8-8.
I replaced my front wiper arms. I went from part numbers starting with 8l84 to 9L84. I bought a brand new driver's side one and got a salvage yard passenger side one. New they are over $100.

I also got to practice with the removal tool on some junk cars. Works well enough. Sometime you need additional leverage.
