2018 Ride Quality

Postby Jossef12 - February 18th, 2019, 10:33 pm

This might just be me since I see no other complaints about it. I think the ride quality of my 2018 SE is awful. It seems like I can feel every bump in the road. Is there anything that can be done to improve the ride? I know it is a small vehicle with a short wheelbase.

I don't like how mine rides either, but we had to have a CUV. Also I am coming from a Mercury Grand Marquis that is silent, soaks up normal road type obstacles like they don't exist. My 2012 Fusion, even with the Sport suspension rides 1000x better. You called it, tall short wheel base made from 10 soda cans and minimal sound deadening makes for a rough and noisy ride. Wife loves it because she sits taller than 25% of the cars now (since 30% are CUVs, 30% are SUVs, and 30% are trucks). It does out handle my 19 year old 330k miles car that doesn't even have a rear sway bar, but it doesn't have the oomph to eclipse it as generally the limit is how much power to have to put down.

Most here drive the older ones, that are even more "truck like" and most want that, a utility vehicle that doesn't necessarily go offroad, but has a little more ground clearance and biased towards inclement road conditions, dirt roads, and minor off roading.

My previous car was a 2012 Fusion that had a pretty nice ride. Guess I just need to realize my Escape will have a more truck like ride. My test drive was in a 2015 Titanium Escape. I really wanted it but the miles were a bit high. I have been told that with 19s the ride would be better. That would be a $2000 upgrade so that won’t be happening.

The lower profile tires and European roots for the suspension where they seem to enjoy the firmer ride contribute to the harsher ride.

The easiest thing would be to change the tires to something even softer but I believe the LRR nature of the tires prevent you from going to anything softer.

PM with wheel questions.
