1.5L PCM reprogram?

Postby bangster - December 16th, 2019, 11:52 am

Got an FCA alert in the Ford Connect app for PCM reprogramming (number 19B37).

I think it seems to be for 1.5 only? Anyone else get it, and have a 2.5 or 2.0?

Someone on another board with a 2019 Fusion with the 1.5 also got the same alert. Apparently, according to their dealer, it is to turn down the boost for overheating and longevity reasons. I am not sure that I want less boost, it is right at the edge of enough to get around as it is.

I received the same thing and I'm thinking the same... But, the CSP says it's supposed to help prevent coolant intrusion into the cylinder bores and I'm thinking this fix might be a good thing. Pretty dumb though that Ford didn't seal the head well enough to prevent this.

Finally did get the paper with more details. I have an appointment for next week for it.

Apparently one thing that is being done is circulating coolant after engine is off (since it has mechanical water pump, there is an additional pump for the heater circuit, so using it?). A Fusion owner reports the sound of a motor running after turning off the car.

Had the work done. They were less than forthcoming with what changes are made (I am not sure they know themselves). I haven't driven it yet, but oil changed, tires rotated (at 55,000 miles they have 4/32 left, they gave them until the next oil change, 10k miles, but I don't think they are going to make that), battery is starting to lose CCA (tested at 526, rated at 590, all previous tests over 600), PCM reprogram done, they couldn't replicate the buzzing noise from the center stack. They didn't seem phased when told I had already had to add over a quart of coolant (I haven't added a quart of coolant to my high mileage cars). We'll see how it fares.

Same here. Been adding small amount of coolant and i have smelled it a few times while driving. Getting it back tomorrow. Might put the for sale sign on it, almost out of warranty and these blocks are known to cause coolant leaking into the cylinders and causing misfires. The other ford escape forum has it well documented how many people have gotten new engines under warranty.

Well got it back today. Of course i was told could not duplicate the problem. Problem was smelling coolant. They told me they did a leakdown (pressurizing) test and it was ok, though once again at this dweeb dealer, not written on any paperwork. No DTC codes were found, i could have told them that, no check engine lights. Duh. They can't fix anything if they don't have a code. So i bought a gallon of antifreeze and the parts lady looked at me, i said "i'm going to need it i guess cause they couldn't find the problem". So got home and the tank is 1" over the max line, don't know if that is hot or they just added extra.

Couldn't tell if they reduced the boost with recall 19B37, next time on a short on-ramp i will know. If does seem like whatever they did, as soon as i touch the gas pedal it lurches forward like i am driving with boots on. Maybe part of it was variable valvetiming adjustment for a bit more low end?

I have put over 5,000 miles on it since the recall, and I think it just is cooling changes, probably cooling fan on at a lower temp, more aggressive to higher speeds sooner, and circulating cooling after it is shut off, I can hear that happening. I don't notice any drivability changes.

My 2017 with the 2.0 just failed the coolant pressure test. My engine light came on, and I read codes p0306 and p0316. Misfire in #2 cylinder and random misfire codes. Have been adding small amounts of coolant over 2 month period. I’m getting a long block and I’m under factory warranty.
