I bought a multi-USB 8 Amp device charger that works off of the cigarette lighter port. I want to permanently wire it into my 2011 Escape XLT. I started by plugging it into the dash cigarette light port, but I realized that the port is always powered. For battery safety, I'd like to wire my charger so that it is switched off when the vehicle is off.
I bought an Add-a-Fuse, popped in a 10 Amp fuse, and wired it to a cigarette lighter port female extension. Hence, I can now plug my charger into that. I just need to find a switched fuse to plug the Add-a-Fuse into. I started with fuse spot #38, which was open. (#38 says it's a 20 Amp socket for Subwoofer/Amp - premium radio, which I do not have...that's why it's open.)
The problem is that, when I turned the vehicle off, #38 still has power. The way the "Add-a-Fuse" works, I can piggyback off of an existing fuse while still being able to utilize whatever was using that fuse. I'd rather run this on it's own fuse socket if possible, but if necessary, I'm willing to piggyback off of something else, provided that thing isn't critical. For example, I wouldn't be concerned sharing a fuse with the radio, as if the radio goes out, it won't stop my vehicle from driving or cause a safety issue. I tried piggybacking off of #3, which is 15 Amp socket for Sync, but that seems to be always powered as well.
Can anyone recommend a fuse socket that is 10 Amps or more that is powered off when the vehicle is powered off? Thanks!
