Powertrain Fault Light

Don't know if anyone has had this happen before but the other day en route back to school, I was going through a toll booth when my car jerked a bit then began losing speed. Instead of dying in the middle of I-95 I pulled along side the triangle after the tool booth where I noticed the engine was idling irratically and I had no accelerator whatsoever. The wrench (powertrain fault) light came on then I turned the car off. I started it back up but it took a while and then the rest of the way up to school felt like I had a loss of power and the engine barely went above 2 RPM if that. Did some research and found this:

Have an appointment this friday so we will see what happens. Hopefully nothing too major. Something to do with the throttle control is what I found.

Sounds like one of those bad throttle body and circuit board issues to me. I wouldn't wait that long; I suspect it'll happen again before Friday.
I won't be driving again until Friday so praying that I can make it home and back to the dealership. (~1.5 hour drive) I heard that once the light goes off or the problem occurs the first time, the car goes into "limp mode". Where the engines performance is reduced and limited.

Will keep you posted. Hopefully whatever it is will be covered the warranty.

Hi Escape94,

Let me know what you hear from the dealership. If you need my assistance, send me a PM with your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name. I'll explore some options to help.

Thanks!

Thanks customer service. Will let you know if I need anything.
Anyway the E is at the dealership now. Died three more times on my way back from school, and on the second time the check engine light came on. It's getting looked at tomorrow, so we shall see what's what. Whatever the matter, it should be covered by the warranty.

Got the escape back. Surprised it was fixed this quickly. Anyway I was told the whole throttle had to be replaced. So guess I was right with my suspicions.

My mother had the same issue with hers recently. Same exact thing.. Unfortunately, dealer said it wasn't covered under warranty. Service writer explained they needed to check codes, and install new throttle body. Labor install (2.1 hours total) and new ETB for $515 out the door. Needless to say, I was a little upset that she was being charged so much for a code check, $170 part, and ten minute install on a known existing premature failing part. I told her it's best to go ahead and have it fixed through Ford so it's on file....
