I've noticed lots of videos on front brake replacement but nothing on rear disc brake replacement. Does anyone have a link leading to one? There ARE differences in the brake pads for sure! I think it would be helpful if there was a video showing the differences and how to change out the rear pads.

I found this one for a ford explorer,I would think it is almost the same...

Escapes don't have rear disc brakes, at least the 01-07 doesn't. We have front discs and rear drums.

Not 100% true. There were a few models in the 05-07 years that did have rear disks. I'm not sure which years or models exactly (might have just been Limited Escapes) but I know they are out there. To answer this properly, we'd need to know which type of brakes the OP would like to know about.

Hmmm.... Then I'll have to find one. I really would LOVE rear discs.

My '05 has rear disc brakes (as stated in the original post). It's an XLT 4WD, not Limited Edition or anything else. There are lots of videos on how to change drum brakes, but I have found nothing on rear disc brakes.

JP to the rescue again...Yes i know there are some 05's that have the rear discs for a fact, like fotojack, few other members also have them on theirs, and theirs were an 05...
I think the middle of 05 they went back to drums, i think it was a cost thing..

I think in 05 there was a sale on alcohol or something, couldn't make up their minds.. :?

I really wish we had 4 wheel disc brakes, it would be so much better!

I don't need the rear disks. My drums have worked great for 10 years and 90k. The disks have been changed 3 times and cost me a bunch of money over the same time.

Getting ready to do my rear brakes on a '05 Mariner V6 4x4...any advice? I did them before, 4 years ago with my father in law...don't remember there being an issue just can't remember if they are discs or drums. Anyone know?
Just look at them. If they look like the bottom side of a cake pan with ridges along the perimeter, it's probably a drum. If it looks like your front brake, it's a disc.

And if they are discs the also house the parking brake shoes inside them.they kinda like a drisc, a drum disc all in one..So that is more info to add to the saga...

Reviving this thread!! I have an '05 with discs all around. Are the front disc brakes different sizes on the models with all disc brakes as opposed to the models with disc/drum combo? Reason I ask, I purchased some rotors for the front, and notice they have two different rotors, both the same, but different prices. So I wonder if the more expensive ones go on the all disc...?

Yes, there is a difference in front brake rotors between those Escapes/Mariners/Tributes that have 4 wheel disc brakes and those with front disc and rear drums. Those with 4 wheel disc brakes have an 11.92" diameter front brake rotor (it is also roughly 0.10" thicker) while those with front disc/rear drum have a 10.94" diameter front rotor.

While on the subject of brakes, I have rear disc brakes on my Escape and I have yet to replace them, and I'm at 125k miles. I've disassembled them twice; removed the pads, clean the slides, lubricate everything. The pads are making good contact with the rotor but still look new. I have replaced the front brakes 3 times since I bought the truck at 55,000 miles. I'm pretty hard on my brakes. Did they not get the brake proportioning dialed in right on the '05-'06 Escapes with the rear disc brake option?
