Reset Airbag Light After Repair

2012 Escape

I just installed a rebuilt drivers seat belt pretensioner. The airbag and pretensioner are
part of the SRS or Supplemental Restraint System.

Pulling the pretensioner electrical connector turned the airbag light on. I assumed the
light would turn off when I installed the rebuilt pretensioner and plugged-in the connector.
The airbag light did not turn off.

There are many Google listings for this procedure. Does not work with my Escape.

1. Turn ignition switch to "on"position.
2. Wait several seconds for airbag light to turn off.
3. Immediately turn ignition switch to "off" position, before airbag light turns on.
4. Repeat above steps two or three times and start the engine.

Local mechanic suggested disconnecting the battery might reset the airbag light. Didn't work.

What can I do to turn off the airbag light? Maybe I need an OBD-II scanner to reset the codes.

Thanks dwightbresemann.

I don't want to pay a mechanic to clear SRS codes. I'm going to buy an OBD scanner.
If I use the scanner a few times in the next couple of years it will more than pay for
itself.

The local mechanic I mentioned has a busy shop. I've asked for his advice a few times.
He doesn't seem to know much about modern cars that are loaded with complex electronics.
